2. Publish through the agreement

Workflow for the researcher: Springer Nature Author Journey for Hybrid Journals

Participants in the agreement can publish an unlimited number of articles openly in hybrid journals without extra costs. It will be the date the article is accepted for publication that is relevant for when it is covered by the agreement. (Please note: Although the publisher is called SpringerNature, this agreement only applies to Springer journals, not Nature titles).

The institutions must themselves approve all the articles that are published through the publisher's workflow (see link above).

3. Reading access

The agreement provides access to the 2025 journal package for Springer journals. The package is upgraded annually.

There is permanent archive access to articles published in the package at the end of the agreement.

4. Springer Open

From 2024, Sikt has negotiated a framework agreement for discount and retrospective invoicing. Each individual institution wishing to participate in the agreement must also sign a license agreement with SpringerNature.

The agreement covers publishing in SpringerNature's gold journals. This includes gold journals from Springer, BMC, Nature, and Palgrave. The following applies:

  • 10% discount on the publishing fee in Springer and BMC gold journals, no discount for Nature and Palgrave gold journals
  • Retrospective invoicing (monthly) directly to the individual institution for all articles
  • The articles enter the same workflow as the hybrid articles in the Compact agreement
