Autumn's negotiations on open access agreements

In the autumn of 2024, Sikt will negotiate with publishers of scientific articles on behalf of its participating institutions. All of the agreements in Sikt's portfolio are up for renegotiation.

The agreements are being negotiated for a new period from 2025 with the duration that Sikt and the publisher agree on.

For most agreements, negotiations started in spring 2024, and Sikt has received several offers. Throughout the process, Sikt's negotiation council, which consists of library directors and senior institutional mamagement at research institutions, is involved in the negotiations. Based on their mandate, they will provide recommendations for received offers.

The most important requirements for entering into agreements are laid down in Open access in Norway: Political foundation and negotiation principles.

Only when the agreements have been fully renegotiated will Sikt inform about the outcome. This is in accordance with the Freedom of Information Act § 23 Exemptions out of regard for the government's negotiating position, etc.).

The library staff at the institutions participating in the respective agreement will receive a notification via email when the agreement has been fully negotiated and general information about the outcome. For the largest agreements, Sikt will also publish press releases and news stories.

Openscience.no has a homepage for each of the agreements in Norwegian and English, and the homepage for the respective agreement will get updated information about agreement terms and title and participant lists when this is available.

See an overview of the agreements here: Agreements that include Open Access publishing.
