Session description

Open Research Europe (ORE) is an open access publishing platform established in 2021 by the European Commission. The platform has enabled researchers funded by the European Commission to publish a wide range of research openly, with open peer review and no fees for either authors or readers.

From 2026, ORE will be open to submissions from a broader group of researchers. With support from several funders and research institutions across Europe, ORE will become a collectively governed, not-for-profit publishing platform, hosted by CERN and built on Open Journals Systems (OJS).

The Research Council of Norway is among the funders that are supporting Open Research Europe. As a result, researchers in Norway will be eligible to publish on the platform, regardless of their source of funding. This makes ORE a relevant publishing option for a wider range of researchers in Norway.

In this session we will get an introduction to Open Research Europe and the publish-review-curate publishing model, explore the implications of its new governance and infrastructure and discuss how ORE can benefit researchers and contribute to making research more accessible and scholarly publishing more equitable.
